Why Astrology?

Why Astrology?

Astrology, though firmly seated in modern therapeutic traditions, has its roots in divination, so I like to think it falls somewhere between the oracles of the ancient world and contemporary psychological counseling. By that, I mean there’s vital craft and preparation going into a consultation, but also an element of the sacred that comes into play, a spark of the divine, when two people come together for a soulful conversation about life. Such a conversation creates a space for something quite profound: When you spend an hour or so where the focus is solely on the circumstances of your life, your goals, and your habits, conscious and unconscious, you shift your attention from the busyness and distractions of the day and look inward. You begin asking larger questions. And from this modest genesis, healing, clarity, and insight can begin. When you work with astrology’s symbols, the language of the heavenly writing, you can’t help but be impressed by their ability to speak to the human condition, the cyclical nature of time, and the resonance of their meanings, which have developed, layer by layer, over thousands of years. Astrology can be a very practical tool and help answer day-to-day questions. But astrology also illuminates. It sheds light on the destiny and purpose of a life and, as such, acts as a lens that helps you see past the extraneous to the essential: What is the best use of my talents and energies? How can I make a meaningful contribution? Where does my happiness lie?
