2018 March Forecast

Overview

Though we start the month with Venus in dreamy Pisces and end the month with the love planet returning to her home in earthy, sensual Taurus, the rest of the month we have a whole lot of Mars shaking up things.  On March 6th, even Venus will be taking a spin through Mar’s natural abode, fiery Aries. What does that mean for you?

Well, you may want to contemplate your boundaries. Venus in Pisces often doesn’t have them, sacrificing herself at the expense of herself. (And, perhaps, feeling the victim as she does this unexamined dance.) In contrast Venus in Aries must learn to assert herself and unapologetically ask for what she desires, without ignoring others. Other Venusian affairs include finances and our values.

March provides us a chance to study the contrasts in how we interact with one another, how we manage (or not) our money, and how we stand by our values. Paying attention to these areas can help us cultivate genuine realizations.

Do we easily forgive and support others (Pisces)? Can we put ourselves first and follow our passion (Aries) without feeling selfish? Are our finances chaotic or do we over-give? Do we spend on impulse and only on ourselves?

Once Venus returns to home territory on March 30th, we have the opportunity to stabilize our new insights into conscious habits.

Venus aside, the real player this month is Mars. On March 17th, Mars moves into Capricorn, where he is said to be exalted, and will stay there until May 15th. Saturn and Pluto already have set up shop in Capricorn, so for two months we have three very edgy planets in a sign known more for its discipline and ambition than the warm-fuzzies. Mars and Saturn – and most astrologers would throw Pluto into this category – are called “malefics,” so the ancients associated them with difficulties and challenges.

That said, both Saturn and Mars shine in Capricorn, so use this two-month period to do Mars and Saturn activities: burn, sever, eliminate the superfluous, take stock, and take action. Get serious and take responsibility for areas of your life that need reorganized, slow you down, prevent you from moving forward, or where you need to pony up and put on your big girl/boy panties. The focus for this period is on doing the hard work and tackling what needs to be done. (No sniveling.) If you aren’t willing to be self-reliant and hold yourself accountable, expect some reality checks. And if you get a reality check, see it for the blessing it is. Then take ownership and adjust your behavior.

The Skinny by Date

March 1: Full moon in Virgo, opposing a stellium in Pisces. Expect some tidying up today. With so much Pisces, it’s easy to float on a ship of expectations and dreams without much of substance to moor us to the shores. This full moon may reveal where our visions of the future may need to be brought down to earth and where the real work lies.

March 3-4: Sun w/ Neptune & Moon square Pluto: Lots of feels these two days. Use them to create, forgive, release, dream, daydream. Not high productive days unless you’re doing creative work. It can be a highly charged emotional day. Really focus on releasing old emotional patterns and getting insights into those patterns.

March 6: Venus moves into Aries, where she is in detriment. Venus likes to unify, Aries wants to separate itself. Venus wants cooperation, Aries wants to go it alone. It’s not an easy place for Venus, so for the rest of the month we need to be more mindful how we treat those around us and to look at our boundaries. Are we being selfish or are we resentful because we give, keep score, and expect reciprocity?

March 8: Jupiter stations retrograde at 23 Scorpio. Jupiter seeks answers, truths, and understanding and while in Scorpio, it won’t stop exploring the depths until it exposes what is hidden. Expect more revelations around this time: politically, personally, interpersonally.

March 10 -12: Moon conj Saturn, Mercury square Saturn. Then Moon conj Pluto and Venus square Saturn. These days are better for cool, clear analysis and stocktaking rather than feelings of warmth or support. In fact, you may be a little depressed or receive an unwanted reality check that brings you up short and makes you reassess a relationship or prior decisions. Doing your taxes, budgeting, handling responsibilities that take a mature approach are a better fit for these three days.

March 17: We have a new moon at 26 degrees of Pisces, squaring Mars, and later the same day Mars ingresses into the sign of Capricorn, where he is exalted. So this may be a bit of a cranky new moon, unless you keep yourself busy. Mars likes activity, so dance, clean house, get up and get things done! Starting today through May 15, the emphasis is on work, responsibility, being efficient and self-reliant. It’s all on you: what needs to be handled in your life?

March 19 & March 25: Moon hits both Pluto and Uranus. Can be emotionally explosive days, so it’s great if you have a therapy session and want to make a breakthrough, but maybe not the best days to have that touchy discussion with your ex-partner or boss.

March 20: Sun moves into Aries, so we have equinox and the start of the seasonal or Tropical year. Sun will be square Mars in Capricorn, pointing to a more dynamic, active year. Mars needs to act, but in Capricorn it wants to act strategically rather than impulsively. What requires mature, disciplined action on your part this year? Create a goal around that activity and keep at it until the next equinox.

March 22: Mercury stations retrograde (until April 15th) at 16 Aries. Nows the time to check plans twice, repeating the important bits. We can struggle with miscommunications and electronics during Mercury retrograde periods. It’s a good time to review, revisit, and rehash, so for the next several weeks is a prime period to organize the office. Get those papers cleared out and filed.

March 24: Venus square Pluto and Sun square Mars/Saturn, moon oppose Mars/Saturn. Well, this could be a very sexy day for some, but also a day when everyone is a bit tetchy. It runs hot and controlling. Follow your passions but be aware that not everyone has to share them. Get active (but not recklessly so, we can be impatient and accident-prone) and sidestep drama. Moon opposes Saturn between 3pm – 8 pm EDT, so aim for quiet contemplative time during these few hours.

March 27-28: Venus conjoins Uranus and Sun square Saturn. These are high tension days. We can find ourselves in squabbles with those in authority, encountering naysayers or smacking face first into obstacles—and we really, really want to rebel with all our might.

March 30: Full moon in Libra/Aries (10 degrees). Expect a scrappy day with the Sun in Aries, Moon in Libra both square the Mars/Saturn conjunction in Capricorn. You could get a lot done or you could be frustrated and fuming. With so much suppressed energy, obstacles and upsets can easily set us off. Like the 24th of this month, the tensions can manifest as accidents and angry emotions. Find a worthy project to attack and approach it with focus and discipline.

March 31: Venus returns to her home sign of Taurus — a sign of peace, comfort and earthy sensuality – and leaves war-like Aries. Use this day to take stock of the month and ask yourself what new habits you’d like to cultivate beginning today.

See you next month!

  1. I’m so glad you are back. This was great —-love “ the skinny” I’ll be opening this post back up all month!

    1. Thanks, Nina! I just updated the key dates because I saw I missed a few important items like Mercury Retrograde, which seemed like a bit of foreshadowing.
